Dental Implants Q & A

What are dental implants?

Teeth play a vital role in the features and anatomy of your face. When you lose a tooth, it leaves a gap in your jaw that can look unsightly and create an unstable facial structure.

Dental implants are replacement teeth that dentists use to fill the spaces left behind. They look identical to your remaining teeth and prevent the jawbone from collapsing.

You can have implants that replace a single missing tooth, two or more teeth, or entire arches. South Valley Dentistry can help determine which option is best for you.

How are dental implants fitted?

A dental implant treatment takes several weeks. First, your dentist places a titanium implant into your jawbone. This implant is a small post that the tooth "inner" will eventually screw into. The implant takes around 2-3 months to heal and fuse into the jawbone so that it's anchored securely.

Once healed, your dentist screws in the tooth inner, or abutment, and places a crown over the top. The crown is the replica tooth the part everyone sees.

Dental implants create a firm, secure foundation for replacement teeth.

What are the different types of dental implants?

There are several ways South Valley Dentistry uses dental implants, depending on how many teeth you have missing and where.

One tooth

If you have just one tooth missing, your dentist simply inserts the implant into the space created by the missing tooth.

Two or more teeth

If you have multiple teeth missing, dental implants can secure a bridge a frame that holds multiple replacement teeth using just one or two implants. This reduces the number of implants you need and provides a more secure, less damaging anchor than other methods.

Entire arch

An arch is an entire top or bottom row of teeth. If you've lost all or most of your teeth, dental implants can secure permanent and removable dentures.

South Valley Dentistry offers a range of dental implant options, including same-day teeth, where you can have a brand new smile in one day, and the innovative All-on-4® method, which allows you to have an entire bridge placed using just four implants.
